Does anybody know??
Generally, after how long one has lived in the US illegally are they able to apply
for a green card? I am just curious, as the situiation doesn't apply to me. If
anybody would be so kind to answer, I thank you in advance!

Re: Does anybody know??
What about all the people that come here either illegally or on tourist/work/student
visas and just overstay, and the after say 7 or 10 years can become legal residents?
Or they just get caught? Thanks!

Correct me if i'm wrong but i've always thought that those who are in the US
continuously since 1972 can get a GC even if they are "undocumented"... However the
general rule is indeed "never!".

Re: Does anybody know??
It is amazing to see where all tax money go. Illegal Aliens are a sure burden on tax
money. However, the real waste of money happens due to bad governments and supporting
lazy "Americans". Work with the Government for a while. You will know.

That's largely a myth.
First, for the most part illegal aliens tend to work in low-paying jobs and don't
make enough money to even have to pay taxes in the first place. Remember that under
$19k or so, US citizens and legal residents don't pay taxes, either.
Second, those who do make enough money often do pay taxes because the IRS is much
better at ferretting them out than the INS. It's simply the safer thing to do.

Re: Does anybody know??
Being illegal for a certain amount of time is NOT a prerequisite to get a green card.
Sometimes, every now and then the Government decides to grants amnesty to illegal
residents or some sort of amnesty! In this cases they can become legal but the
amnesty is not something that happens punctually every some years. We might have none
in the future! R
PS: please distinguish between illegals and people with tourists/work/student visa
who are not illegals!
