Default Daughter moving to US on L2 Visa - where and how to file?

Hi All,

I'm working in the US on an L1 work visa. My 10 year old daughter from my first marriage is planning to come to the US and live with me.
I assume that this entails an L2 visa but am unsure after that - my company lawyers weren't able to help much but said I should file her application in London - is this correct?
If anyone's been through a similar process I'd be very keen to hear from you.

Many thanks, Toby.

That sounds correct, I presume she has the other parents permission, it will be needed.

Hi Thanks for this. Yes she has permission and all is fine in that respect. Should I be presenting some kind of letter from the other parent at the time of application in order to confirm this or is it something that they'll ask for further down the line?

Thanks again, Toby.

They'll want to see it at her visa interview.

She should also bring proof of her relationship to you (long form birth certificate, most likely), her passport, and proof of your L-1 status.

When my stepdaughter started school here, the school insisted on seeing a formal custody agreement from the court stating that she should live with my husband (even though her mother had been to the school and confirmed the living arrangements already). We had this and showed them, so no problems - you may want to discuss with the school in advance what paperwork they will need to see.
