Default Co-sponsors and overkill

When showing your ability to support you wife, is overkill ok or can it hurt?

Earlier this year the Manila consulate did not want to give my daughter a US
passport until I could show them my old passport when I was 10 years old! I had
to prove that I was in the US for at least 5 years before her birth. I was
living in Manila for the past 7 years on and off so I showed them my
certificate of US citizenship, high school transcript, drivers license issued
in 1999, and current passport. I thought that would be more than enough. Wrong!
They counted the dates I was in the US on my passport and days I was in high
school. They did not count June to Sept during my 4 years because they said
that I could have been out of the country during summer breaks. My transcript
only accounted for 3.5 years in the US. To make a long story short, I was about
3 months short of the required 5 years. I had to have someone fedex my old
passport to Manila and go back to the consulate. After we showed them my
passport, they gave my daughter one.

Based on that experience, I'm going for maximum overkill in proving that my
family and I can support my wife and daughter! I having my father,
brother-in-law, and sister file a petition. My wife also has a decent job and
has a joint account (with me) to the amount of $2,500 in one of those time
savings accounts in Manila.
