Cinco de Mayo - 1. a date marked in Mexico for a Mexican victory over
occupying French troops in the Battle of Puebla, May 5, 1862, it is not
Mexican independence day. 2. pseudo Mexican holiday promoted in the
United States by distilleries, breweries and beverage wholesalers to
tap the growing Hispanic market. 3. a day of alcoholic excesses, public
disturbances, riots and arrests in the United States, particularly in
those areas of the United States with concentrations of unassimilated
