Birth Certificate
Hello
We are in the throes of completing all the document collection for the NVC and we have:-
* applied for the Police certs,
* completed the DS-230I & II,
* the marriage certificate,
* petioner documents
* copy of passports,
* my Birth cert
* my daughters Birth cert
* BUT........... we have just asked my wifes father for her original birth cert and all he has is a copy, as the original was destroyed whilst their house was being shelled in the Lebanon
Would NVC accept a copy with an explanation? She also has an original baptism cert which shows her DOB etc. If not, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Re: Birth Certificate
What nationality is your wife?
If she is British then you can obtain a certified copy from either her local registrar of Births Deaths and Marriage or alternatively from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Re: Birth Certificate
Thanks for the website
My wife was born in Tripoli, Libya (the copy of the BC shows this in Italian and Arabic) But she has been a resident in the UK for over 25 years.

Once you select the country, be sure to scroll down past the big chart at the top of the page; the good stuff is down further.

Re: Birth Certificate
google 'reciprocity schedule' and it will take you to the Dept of State page with instructions about which documents your wife needs and how to get them.
