AP and AOS.

AP and AOS.
I have received my receipts for AOS, my case is now pending, but if I want to leave the country to travel to the UK, can I do so when I get AP, if I do is there a chance they wont let me back in the US? I have heard it is best to get my GC first, is that true? Or will it not affect me now my case is pending? Or have I just got it all around my neck?
