Default Am I eligible for "dual" citizenship?

Born in US to British mother and US father. I have always been interested, but never motivated, to partake in my British side of life, so now I want to see if I can receive British citizenship.

I appreciate your feedback.

If you mother is British then yes you 'almost certainly' can obtain a British passport

Children born to parents who were born in the UK are British Citizens. If
your mother is British, but not born in the UK, I don't believe you
qualify. If she was born in the UK, you are eligible for a UK passport.

Contact the British HIgh Commission for more information. (Oh, and if your
mother was not born in the UK, but your grandparent was, you may be
eligible for a work permit to work in the UK).

His mother could have gotten UK citizenship from her parents, if she was
not born in the UK, she will not be able to pass British Citizenship. She
can only pass it if she herself was born in the UK.

My mother was born and raised in London to 2 British citizens, and left to the US in her 20s, later meeting my father in California. I was born in the US.

I'll check out the links you provided...thanks.

- 'Born' should read 'born or naturalised'
- If it's a British mother, then it depends on whether you were born before 7 Feb 1961 (no chance of being British), after 1 Jan 1983 (automatically British) or between those two dates (not British but eligible for registration)
- Complications arise from deriving British citizenship from a father not married to the mother

US citizens are not eligible for the Ancestry Visa, unless they also hold a Commonwealth country citizenship.
