Am I eligible for "dual" citizenship?
Born in US to British mother and US father. I have always been interested, but never motivated, to partake in my British side of life, so now I want to see if I can receive British citizenship.
I appreciate your feedback. Matt |

Re: Am I eligible for "dual" citizenship?
Children born to parents who were born in the UK are British Citizens. If
your mother is British, but not born in the UK, I don't believe you qualify. If she was born in the UK, you are eligible for a UK passport. Contact the British HIgh Commission for more information. (Oh, and if your mother was not born in the UK, but your grandparent was, you may be eligible for a work permit to work in the UK). If she was born in the UK, you are eligible for a UK passport. - 'Born' should read 'born or naturalised' - If it's a British mother, then it depends on whether you were born before 7 Feb 1961 (no chance of being British), after 1 Jan 1983 (automatically British) or between those two dates (not British but eligible for registration) - Complications arise from deriving British citizenship from a father not married to the mother Contact the British HIgh Commission for more information.
