One more point - bear in mind your fiancé is subject to the green card retrogression like anyone else. He will not be able to file consular processing with the consulate or adjustment of status with USCIS until his priority date becomes current (see visa bulletin here). I believe he could go ahead with the I-824 regardless of priority date retrogression, however.

At least I have something to work with and somewhere to start.
Its been a stressful journey so far - every year we hope this will be the year when he finally files his I485, and every year we drown ourselves in disappointment.
So we shall see. At least in the UK he will be a guaranteed citizen in 3 yrs as a spouse. difficult choices to make!
