The perils of 24 hour news and the reliance of Jo(hanna) Public to report it.

I tell you, get a catchphrase and milk it, you'll be a MyFaceTube sensation.

We are thanks!

My brothers just announced that he played the BBC video in front of everyone at a Director's meeting at his work, OMG!

Also just noticed they'd put my voice to another video on the BBC News Website:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12162505

I have had about 30 missed calls since, from Radio Five Live, Radio Sheffield, Breakfast TV etc, mental, I can't do anymore interviews, I don't even know how I managed to string two words together for that one!!! :unsure:

EDIT: I've since emailed the girl who first made contact with me, and she has assured me there will be no more calls, we'll see lol

New you'd be a hit girl!

How is it in Toowoomba now? I have not seen anything on the TV and wondered if the water has receded and people were able to get on with the clean up etc.

Cooler

I've not gone near the CBD as we've all been told to stay away so the authorities can get on with sorting things out. Trying to join this site http://www.volunteeringqld.org.au/home/ but it's down at the moment, probably inundated by people wanting to help and has crashed!

They'll get back to you, but bear in mind they are swamped with offers at present. Every single one is valuable, just takes time to answer them all.

========================
I have heard anecdotally that if you are willing to help clean people's houses etc then if you have your own mops, buckets etc thats even better as they are a valuable commodity.
Also if you are involved in cleaning your own or anyone else's property - wear thick rubber gloves, and strong footwear. No flip flops/thongs, no bare feet, sounds like common sense but in a stressful situation people sometimes forget the hidden dangers. Mosquitos may also become a problem, if you are rpone to being bitten, stiock up on repellent :blink:

Re: The 'Jen1977au' thread

Well, here we are, Day 1 of the new academic year here in Queensland, OH MY CRIKEY, HERE WE GO AGAIN! :( As yet I have no work, I have been told that on Day 8 they will do headcounts in all of the schools, if they have too many kids they then reshuffle them into new classes etc and may employ additional teachers. Well, I guess I'm waiting for Day 8 then, D DAY, hmmm... :unsure: I've been told that if they employ you before then, as in, today, to start a years contract, they have to backpay you for the summer hols, how much of this is true I don't know, but hey ho, sounds logical to me that schools will avoid doing that to save their budgets.

Anyhoo, I got up early regardless, went to my usual term-time gymclass at 5.45, just in case. I'm now back to 'phone watching' in the hope that eventually someone will take pity on me. I actually found myself feeling really upset as I left the gym this morning, knowing that I had an even longer day ahead of me, as I was up at the crack of dawn. Everyone else was rushing to get to work, not me, I was in no hurry. On the way home I was close to just bursting into tears, but I stopped myself! :o Anyways, sorry for the glum post but I could really do with some karma and some positive words. Last year I ended up working 96 out of a possible 110 days, so I should be trying to think positively, eh!? Unlike last academic year it's not a financial worry as I saved like billyo last year to make sure I'd spare cash, and I still have $5k of that left, but I still feel like a 'spare part', not required at present, and well, it's really hard to deal with after having been full-time permanent for the last ten years in the UK. All of those teachers and students are meeting today for the first time, and I too should be getting to know my own wee class, but alas, I'm not...:thumbdown:
