First year in Cairns!!
Can hardly believe I've been here a year! Those first 4 months here on my own without hubby and kids seems like ages ago, kids now settled in the local state school with new bunch of friends (I know they miss their old friends but they keep in touch online).
Everything going fine with me, no probs with 457 visa, great job and great peeps to work with...ENS visa in the pipeline (it may turn up some time this decade!)
Hubby is an unlicensed carpenter and had a few different jobs. Was going quite nicely as self employed handyman/carpenter but we wouldn't get a mortgage till he'd had his ABN for 2 years so he had to find some other work. At the moment he is working FIFO doing maintenence work in a remote aboriginal community and is not enjoying it but hopefully he will find it easier to get something else once he has this experience under his belt.
We are still renting for now which suits me at the moment as the prices are definately falling and with our money stuck in the UK at the mercy of a crap exchange rate I am happy for us to bide our time and watch and wait. One house I had my eye on, nothing special and in need of TLC but it has an enormous powered shed that was ideal for hubby to set up his workshop has gone from being $399000 to now being $309000 and still not sold
Still can't believe it's a year today since I stepped off that plane, have not wanted to go back at all yet, we don't have much in the way of family left, my brother and sister are the closest to us, my sister came for a visit in April and my brother will come at some point I'm sure (he'll have to wait till we get a bigger house tho!)
I just wish this ENS visa would show up soon.....

WOW! I cannot believe it is a year since you went out there on your own Time can whizz by sometimes.
Lovely to hear that you are all doing well out there & that you are enjoying your job. Pity about OH's work though but hopefully it will all come good
I am also really pleased to hear about the fall in house prices too. Hopefully by the time we get there, they will be even better

Lovely post sounds like you are enjoying it, just what I need at the moment as knee deep in plastic bags as trying to sort out everything for the move. Good news with house prices too - watch this space.
Long may you enjoy
