Don't worry, everything will fall into place for you. Don't worry about the dogs, they are supposed to travel a lot better than humans do and Eastern Creek has a good reputation. We will be the same when Storm has to go. The worst that will happen will be they lose a bit of weight..perhaps I should go with them!

Not sure about luggage..we ahve bveen other countries and been over but not Oz..we always seem to be over on way back from places! 20kg is crap isn't it.

Can't wait for all your updates and first weeks experiences etc. Let us know how you go finding a rental with dogs..that is our biggest worry.

Lots and lots of luck. Will be thinking of you. Look forward to a few nice glasses of wine with you when we get there..you will have lots of advice and experiences to share by then. You will be fine, the plane will be a chance to relax!

Liz here, so glad you are all well and the family enjoying it there..sounds like the kids are getting settled too. Are you still in Trinity Beach rental..or did you move out? can't keep up with the posts on here.
Love the photos.
Just want to get there now!!
Liz

Hi, yes we are still at Trinity Beach.....gorgeous location shame it's not the sort of place we could afford to to buy, it's looking like we may end up having to settle for apartment or townhouse as everything else is so expensive (not what I had in mind before we came here ).
Looks like there's a few new arrivals coming soon, can't wait to meet everybody, we should arrange a meet-up

Glad you doing o.k mate. Shame about the house prices. We are going for Forest Gardens. You mentioned White Rock which I have heard isn't a great location..have you considerd Forest Gradens or Smithfield if you want to be nearer the beach. Got a really nice feel for the place when we visited and lots of walks to do there..not right near the beach but only 10 mins or so to Yorkeys beach for dog walking...also I can walk to work from there so wouldn't have to worry about transport for me initially..as will be skint when get there.
Looks like I may have to come out before jen, as supposed to be starting work by end of March. My visa should hopefully be sorted by then . I then have to sponsor Jen on interdependency visa which is about 4 weeks or so, then have to get dog injections etc sorted, removals so it may be 2 months later she gets out there. Don't want to come out on my own but at least I will know a few people there..you and Trudi...so be prepared to get that kettle on!!

Hi Liz, yes Smithfield is a definate possibility, also looking at Redlynch, Freshwater, Brinsmead, Caravonica. I know it's cheaper on the south side but as kids go to school at Redlynch we need to be nearby.
Hope you get your visas sorted quickly and don't have to be apart too long!
See you when you get here!

Thanks ..I like the look of Smithfield Heights. there was a gorgeous high set on there for offers in late 300's and it had the most amazing panoramic views and gorgeous stripped floorboards and a balcony all the way round..as well as a huge garden, driveway and double garage. If we would have been there we would have bought it!!!
Roll on getting there. just trying to get straight answersabout sponsoring Jen from U.K without having to e resident there first and very worrying as getting different answers from everyone. Have e mailed Australia House direct to try to find someone who deals with Interdependency visa on a regular basis!!!!!
Keep me updated..trudi will be out there soon..can't wait to have a few bevvies with both of you..girls night out needed me thinks!

So glad you are enjoyng it and love the job..we get there in March/April so will be up for shopping and BBQ's. How have you found the humidity..has it been o.k?
Palm Cove, love it there..must see if we can find 6 months rent upfront to secure a nice rental! Would be great to go straight into a rental on arrival there...are you waiting for furniture and sat on bean bags???
Keep us updated.

the humidity was 90 % today and it is physically draining if you work anywhere that isnt airconditioned. im drinking about 6 litres of water a day just to try and stay hydrated. i love the wet season but you soon get over it when you are working in it.

Hi Liz

Sorry didnt get back to you sooner been doing quite a lot of things over xmas and new year so haven't been on much.

Had a hiccup on visa front have top prove sons dependency he is 18 unfortunately his circumstances have changed so maybe not be able to get him on our visa but we are ok could take another month.

Having concerns over cairns on the job front cant seem to find much advertised on in hubbys line.

He is pipe fitter (industrial) welder fits air con units in large Builds (not domestic unfortunately) could be boiler maker. Thought I would add all that incase someone knows any thing.

House prices seem to be going mad also although we arent anxious to buy.

Sometimes keep thinking we should go with our heads and firstly head to Perth where hubby could get work almost immediately and rent and then buy a holiday home in Cairns and rent it out until we feel confident about work situation in North Queensland.

We dont want to blow all our money in Cairns if hubby cant find work.

We do have a couple of leads that we will follow up and really want to follow my heart and head to Cairns if it was just me and hubby we would come to Cairns without hesitation but we have 3 kids to think about.

Its all very difficult but one thing is for sure we have to decide

Bless you..you sound very confused but you are right..you need work there. My OH is the same . Has been offered job with Queensland Police but the pay is awful for the hours considering she will still be working shifts. She has made a couple of contacts with the court witness protection and also the child protection unit. She has applied for a job and the big boss is considering whether she will be allowed to apply before she gets her PR. I guess it depends when they want someone to start. My pay initially is only 55,000 dollars but after 3 months I start to get bonuses etc and that will average my pay out at about 90-120,000 (based on what other sports podiatrists there earn). That will be great but the first 3 months will be hard..especially with no extra cash. Damn house isn't sold (3 viewings in 5 months) so have had to consolidate a few debts which we would have paid off with the equity...aaaaahhhhh. is that how you feel luv.

Have you been looking on internet job sites for jobs for hubby? There is a main site with all North Queensland jobs on..especially around Cairns area. I am sure you ahve already looked. I will check with Jen what it's called..she is on it at least 3 times a week. Have you registered with any agencies there..indutrial supplier type ones or contacted the local government?
Keep looking, am sure your sons visa will get sorted.

We were gutted as heard about the new 176 (175?/) visa where you can include same sex partners on same visa. i got all excited and was going to re-start application when found out youhave to have worked 12 months in the job..which I havn't quite..bugger. I have seen posts of people getting PR visas through in a matter of a few months. How jealous am I. We just want out now, house sold or not sold! May be eating vegemite on toast for a few months but at least it won't be in greater manchester!

I am booking meds for 3 weeks time whether I have lost enough weight or not. I go mountain biking, walk the dog 2 hours a day and weight train for gods sake. Just because over 30 B.M.I doesn't mean I am a lazy couch potatoe and a burden on their health service. i can't wait to get out there and do more sport! Was going to take up rowing again but think it may be a bit dangerous there with the crocs and everything else!! I do miss my rowing and being part of a team sport. Now I am waffling.

Keep your chin up, for purely selfish reasons try to get to Cairns, if not I will stalk you in Perth!!! Work is so important though, you have to live at the end of the day.
