The cats have arrived!

yay! they arrived today - early! Apparently, the plane was early and so the cats were at my door 45 before I was expecting them. They're in great condition and have spent the last few hours searching the house
They seem to be settling now... a little attached to us at the moment (which i think is understandable) but happy and safe
Only 2 more weeks inside the house and they can go for adventures outside... which worries me a bit but I'm hoping part of Quarantine was a " how to not chase snakes or bite means spiders" orientation
There are piccies and vids here
I know it's scary when you think about sending you pets over so if anyone wants to ask any questions feel free
I'll do my best to answer you

They'll be tugging at your heartstrings for the rest of their lives, Mochinbach
Every time they do something wrong you'll think, ah, it's my fault, I put them through that terrible ordeal....or is that just me?
(I was watching an animal rescue show the other night and they put a cat on a plane back to its long lost owner; I burst into tears at the thought of my three being put through it. 20 months on.

Which company did you use and, if u dont mind me asking, how much roughly did it cost you in the end?
We just got our moving date which is in 7 weeks and I think our 2 will be staying with my sister for a few months with a view to flying them out after that.
I keep changing my mind about whether I should put them through the journey or not but after being at the cat and dog home the other day (my friend was rehoming a cat) it broke my heart to see all the cats with no homes
and made me realise that there is def no way Im leaving them behind!! Even though Dexy kept me up for 4 hours last night!!!!
Ive had a few different quotes but still unsure who to go with

Can i just say it might it worth getting them a cattery run rather than letting them venture out, nothing to do with protecting the local wildlife etc, but for your cats sake.
We were estatic when our beautiful Mr B arrived in Dec 08, and he loved life here, chillaxing and sunbathing...devastatingly he was run over in Nov 09.
We kept him in at nights, live in a pretty quiet area etc - it happened at 8.15 am just before we were left the house for school.
horrible horrible horrible times.
Being a car made it a little easier to accept, if was a snake we'd never have forgiven ourselves.

We nearly lost our cat last week. He was hit by a car and had his entire bottom lip ripped from his jaw. It looked revolting and the kids were hysterical (have to say the cat was the only calm one!) The surgery to stitch it up cost nearly $700 which we realise we were very lucky to be able to afford as another family were in tears as they couldn't afford their dogs' bill and he would have to be put down. We've had to keep him in to recuperate and he is going stir crazy as he's such an outdoor cat, always hunting and gathering. Regularly find a dead fruit rat in the long grass under the trampoline! I guess financially and emotionally it would be the more sensible option to keep him and our other two, indoors but they have such fun legging it round the garden, scaling fences and scratching trees I know that will never happen. So can any recommend any good pet insurance for 3 mental cats?
(Didn't mean to hijack the thread Mochinbach, but I am keeping with the feline theme.)

Bow wow wow i think is good for insurance - sure thats what we have...
We're building our new home at the moment - its going to have a cat run on the side (laundry door) and we're going to try and get a good deal on these oscilating fence toppers which are meant to keep cats in. So the cats can have a life but we can keep them contained.
We got another cat from the rspca as we were all pretty messy (was the same week anniversary of my nephews death so all feeling very raw) then i made the mistake of stopping at a pet shop and bought a kitten who looked just like the cat we had rehomed in the uk. Not replacements, distractions!

The new build sounds good, you'll have to post some photos of the run and let us know how successful it is.
They really do become part of the family don't they.

Pet plan are great with Insurance to. One of our cats got bit by a snake Nov 08. The cat did great the visa bill was crippling! We kept them indoors for a year and built a cat run, which they hated. The noise they made in the run was worse than any dog barking?? The damage to the indoor furniture was outstanding too. They are over insured now and allowed out a few hours a day, which seems to calm them down! Got to love the bugger though

Our consultant was Lindsey Starkings. She was really heplful throughout the whole process. Their price included a lovely purpose made wooden crate/kennel that the cats have travelled in and are now going to have in the garden to sleep in when they want some privacy
(lol) You'll see it in the piccies
Here's a copy of the quotation

You have to apply for all sorts of permits both from the UK and Aus
Website: www.aqis.gov.au
and www.defra.gov.uk
And you have to contact the quarantine station to get them booked in. My boys were at Spotswood and, according to their carers, they were spoilt rotten! Stan put on weight (he's always been the little one) and they were both being groomed and played with all the time

They're both very happy now. Stan even encountered his first gecko on the window. (also in the piccies) I'm letting them out for the first time on Saturday

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mochinb...7623237872229/ for the piccies
I'd embed them in here but I can't see away of doing it

OOOH, How cute. I wish I could take my Guinea pigs, but I think the journey would be too much for them.
