Hi there CEM,
We moved to Sydney from UK in 2001 and returned back to UK in 2005 with my 1 year old son. We moved back because we thought it would be better for him to grow up around family. But since we moved back, we thought about Australia every day and are now moving back to Sydney on 26 Oct.
Good Luck.

We're doing the same. We were in Perth for 4 years - took ages to settle but did eventually, then work brought us back here (UK). I was very depressed for a long time but settled eventually (took 3+ years tho'!) and now work is taking us to Sydney. I'm expecting it to take another couple of years to settle again but at least I know that now and can be prepared for it. I know life won't be the same; it can be just as good, but different. These forums really help too - they weren't around when we first moved (not that I knew of anyway) and I thought I was the only one who found it hard. I know different now!
Good luck with your decision, it's a real strain on a relationship when one partner feels that they're the one making all the 'sacrifices' for the sake of the other.
Is anyone else going to Sydney? Feels like we're the only ones!

Hard decision! If you feel you need to come back for all the right reasons you must do so.
Many people do what you have done so not the 1st.
We have freinds lived in OZ 10 years sold up moved back to the UK 3 months later now returning.
Good luck.

Hi Vanita,
Glad we're not the only ones! It's a hard one isn't it. We came back when our girls were nearly 9. 7 and 5 and I'm really glad that they've got to know their grandparents amd extended family, even though they all live on the other side of the country and one grandma now lives in Spain. However, as they get older I really feel that Aus will offer them more.
Where will you be living? I think we'll aim to be around Gordon and that area to start with cos that's where the girls will be at school.
Good luck with the move - it's very close now!

Hi All,
I have read all the posting on this thread and other posting on the forum, with great interest.
We are currently looking at our options and the main one that sticks out is moving to Australia, we moved from the UK to the Middle East some 2 years ago. Although we never looked to work or live abroad, it basically just happened when I applied for a job, not much family discussions, applied and six weeks later we landed in our new country.
Right now to my point, me and the children love the place mostly due to me at work and the kids at school, all keeping busy, my wife on the other hand has been through a roller coaster of emotions, good weeks bad weeks. Due to my wife we put the brakes on! We thought, right back to the UK, then we evaluated our position and changed our minds due to the current state of the country and we are currently looking at vacancies in OZ, and my dear wife that has had to put up with every one being happy except her. She has now found and enrolled on a couple of distance learning college course, and she can still continue those courses in OZ. The boredom she had, created the depression. so moving back to the comfort zone of the UK is not always best, as others have pointed out.
Many thanks for everybody that has put a posting as it has helped in our decisions.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL and put another shrimp on the BBQ you might be getting new neighbors, ha.

Im in Kent too, we have be back one year now, OH hates it back here we were in Perth for 3 years, now going back to Brisbane hopefully within the next 6 months, its changed so much here
We came back for personal reasons and thought that life in Oz wasnt for us, now realise that it was me and not the place, big expensive mistake we made, but at the time for us it was the right thing to do..Now both of us feel we want to give it another go, my old Dad (for whom we came back) says he's even contemplating on the move once we are settled!!!
Im glad we got citizenship before we came back, although no passports we have to go up to Australia house in London soon and get them.

hi everyone, havnt been on for a little while...we went on hols to france but it rained for two weeks so wont bother going into that, had a little bit of settling for a little while back in sept, and did actually secretly think in my own mind should we go back to oz
BUT i soon came to my senses, actually within about a week, in fact our 12 month anniversary of being back in this wet corner of the world is on the 12 november and i didnt think i would still feel so strongly about returning!!!(might have something to do with not wanting to come back to start with)most people assured us that with time the heartache would fade...but couldnt be further from the truth although perhaps for some it does

From: Colchester, Essex but hope to head to Bulli / Thirroul area.....

I have been reading this whole thread and actually feel so relieved so many of us feel the same
My Aussie husband and I moved out to Sydney 2002 and stayed there until Nov 2005. We had our first daughter in April 2004 out there then, mid 2005 my Dad died suddenly. I suddenly hated everything Australian and made the very rash and very stupid decision to pack us all up and come home..... 3 months later and 36 weeks pregnant with daughter number 2 we were home in cold, wet Essex
Three years later we are settling into life here, eldest just started school and we have a few close friends around - but we miss Australia soooooo much! We want to make the move back - it would have to be for good this time as we have shipped house contents twice now!! - but do we have the money? We have been very silly with cash and now have pretty much nothing to move with apart from the cost of actually getting out there!
Has anyone else with a small family moved with literally a few months rent and the money for a car?? Is it too much of a risk??
My feeling is life is too short and we should just go for it - but my serious side says we need security!!! :curse:
Hmmmmmm........

I agree with previous post, be careful about why you want to return,, we came bk because I didnt settle & youngest daughter, however I too realise I didnt give it long enough, and can see how much i really did start to fit in in OZ, we are taking our time in returning, as we have visa`s for a few more yrs yet. It is difficult starting afresh anywhere new, takes time and lots of effort I think.
I wish you luck and hope you make the right desicion allround
