Smile 2 weeks in Brisbane!!

Well we finally got here after a very long process (about 14 months). The house sold fairly quickly but it was by the skin of our teeth that are visa's didn't expire (landed on 18th October, Visa would have run out on the 20th!!). We had a night stop over in Hong Kong at the Citygate, which was fantastic, got some sleep and a swim and left the next night. Nighmare flight from Hong Kong to Brisbane, 8 hours, no sleep and a very grumpy 4 year old!!. Must give a thumbs up to Cathay Pacific who were very good with her.
Got some temporary holiday accomodation in Brisbane Holiday Village. Its a bit expensive but must comment on how clean it all is.
Kids have been driving us mad, as we are now searching for a rental but have already been turned down for one as husband hasn't got work??? Even though we have got a very healthy bank balance from the sale of the house in the UK and are willing to pay 6 months up-front....No pleasing some people.
Prices have risen in the last 6 months especially in the rental market and i must say that we have seen some real dumps and they want to charge you the earth!!! Got a few more to view this week, so fingers crossed.
I have read loads of threads about food, and must agree that you do have to shop as a Aussie, especially the markets, which are very good value and much better quality of fresh produce, as shopping like a brit with all the crap that the kids put in the trolley is very expensive.
We so far haven't been disappointed...its great, the kids love being outside, in the pool and just having some quality time with us. And a big bonus is that the weather (apart from the last few days!!) have been beautiful. Blue sky does it for me!!!!

Hi we had the same problem finding a rental. I did a print out showing the bank balance to prove we could afford the rent. also some property managers are more understanding & helpful than others.

Good luck with the search..

Welcome to Brissie... (I've been here 10 years now!)

Where are you looking to stay?
What line of work is hubbie in?

If you've got any questions - just ask, there are plenty of us around who have gone through it all before and theres no such thing as a stupid question.

Good luck with everything!
