We have a similar system Russ . $50 per day to cover inspections and paperwork , paid hub mileage , paid fueling , paid loading and unloading , paid for turning up at a delivery site , border crossings etc . Any other delays for example getting repairs to the equipment are paid hourly . Oh and paid holidays to boot which is quite rare over here .

Re: Loblaw
That will be 4% of gross for first 5yrs service ,then 6% after that.
Some companies pay it with your pay and as you rightly say some companies let you save it up,and you can use it when you want. jimmy. |

Re: Loblaw
Hi all spent last 7 hours reading your posts (all 54 pages). Some valid points and some serious "ribbing" that seems to have got out of hand. I also see lots of efforts to get back on track, with that in mind how much trucking experience is required before applying for a job in Canada?

Re: Loblaw
If you can drive a truck the jobs yours , but normally two years experience is expected .

Re: Loblaw
I tried to quote the two of you ie; Mttm and mickfly but only one quote per post perhaps. So rather than missing one of you out I decided neither. Anyway two years experience is good as that ties in nicely with my plans which are to do a double header on the HGV tests in September with the CPC as a follow on, then gain a minimum of two possibly three years driving experience in the UK before starting the process of applying for jobs out in Canada and looking for either PNP or TWP posts driving.

Re: Loblaw
This three week leave thing is that the minimum paid leave (yes I understand you get paid on top and have to budget it in to your spending and saving) or the maximum you can take with any company?
Once you have PR could you then lower your work to a couple of shifts per week and take the two months off in the summer to spend time with the kids while they're on summer break? Paul |

Re: Loblaw
I'm confused! I read this whole thread too (maybe that's why I'm confused!) and I thought I'd read that people were able to apply for PR after six months so if you're saying it takes three years or more, is that how long it takes after applying or is that kind of timescale not on this same scheme that people have been discussing here?

Meaning once you have been working for six months and are of good enough standing you can then apply for PR which can take 24 months to complete hence the three years quoted. |
Re: Loblaw
Crumbs! OK thanks - still reading so hopefully I'll get it all straight eventually!

Re: Loblaw
A lot of people that apply for PR receive Provincial Nomination first..ie.. 6months at job ,apply for nomination,,,say 3/4mnths to receive then with the PNP certificate apply for PR.

If all you're going to do is give it the Charlie big potatoes routine every time, don't bother, trust me, nobody is laughing with you:eek: |

A lot of drivers take the whole winter off, I guess you would have to put in some time to get to that point, but if you stay with a firm from LMO, through PNP and until you get PR you'll be looking at three years or more, that may be enough. .

Why put in the time? Is that to keep your job open or to have the money to finance the break?

Re: Loblaw
This may be stating the obvious but if you're with a large company, ie. TransX, Bison, H&R etc, it's a lot easier to take as much time off as you want rather than a small company with a few trucks.
A small company cannot replace you for a few months, whereas a large company can suck it up no problem. |
Re: Loblaw
Mickfly I didn't say I was on 2400 a week because its not for me so read it properly properly

Like I've said before you can earn 2400 a week but that depends if it suits you
But your earnings can go along way if you are not stupid with the money northboy you need to look at your figures if your not coming out and have not interest in coming out then what's the point in trying to work it out Lots of rentals for starters include the bills in the rent |

Re: Loblaw
After fifty-five pages I can't remember if anyone said anything about where Loblaw recruit or where the seminars are, can anyone give me a heads up? Do they recruit in France and if so do they send English speaking recruiters (not that that I couldn't manage in French though)?

Get a grip and offer proper advice or don't bother at all , or as you might be able to comprehend slightly easier MUFFS :D |
