It's better than having the government determine the availability of healthcare services. Neither is great, but have services restricted based on the whim of the government is worse. We don't stop people spending their money on Ferraris or world cruises, and if someone is wiling to pay for an operation that the government won't fund then I see no reason why the government shoud be in the business of allowing "acceptable waiting lists".
I find copays and the lack of transparency about the cost of services infuriating. I'm less likely to use healthcare because of this which is why we see sucj an unhealthy population here and an over-reliance on emergency care for problems that could have been taken care of sooner.

To stay where we are in summer, mortgage free with three full time rentals and one 6 monthly rental in the south for winter.
I don't know what we'd do in retirement, so I at least hope to work until I kick the bucket.

I don't know where I will be when I near an age where retirement might be an option, but I'd hate to have to retire and be stuck in the city I am in currently.

Now I just get daily abuse about water contamination.
It's enough to make you want to throw yourself off a bridge and die from lead, arsenic and bacteria diseases when you hit the water

We're currently toying with the idea of moving, even though we've got 15-20 years to go until we retire. It's way too expensive here, we can barely afford to live here while we both work FT, no way could we afford it when we retire.
Hubby needs to find a job in another part of the country (Oregon and Colorado appeal), we could then afford to buy a house with a small mortgage, and put most of the money we currently spend on rent into a retirement fund.
When we lived in the UK we always said we'd retire to France. I still like that idea, although retiring to the UK (Yorkshire/Peak District/Lakes) also has huge appeal. Reality is, although I was quite happy to leave our family behind, I can't imagine I'll want to be far away from my daughter, so a lot depends on where she ends up, (although for the last 3 years she says she's going to live out of a van and constantly travel).
