Missed this thread - Tell me more about the insulation spraying - I need to do that. So 2 people, 5 hours. What square footage/ depth did you achieve?

I'm looking to add 4 inches to mine, but my roof is not highly erect, and it would be hard to manipulate the python into all the relevant spots. Doing it alone does not sound as much fun either.

It is a 2 person job, one to be in the attic spraying and the other outside filling the hopper.

We did 1100 sq ft and it was about another 4 inches added to what we already had. I think we used 15 bags.

You had better find a friend to help mate

I'm surprised Mr Weeze didn't beat me to it. Perhaps commenting on Rich's python made him nervous

We got it from Home Depot. It is fairly big so you need a truck to get everything home.
We paid a $500 deposit and when you buy more than 10 bags of the insulation the retal is free. As long as you take the hopper back in 24 hours they immediately refund the deposit.

You need to figure put the sqft of the house with the thickness of insulation that you need which will help you know how many bags you need.

If you're in MA, give the gas/electric company a shout and they'll do a free energy survey/audit and do the insulation for free. Something similar in ME and CT, but not to the same extent.

Might be worth into something similar locally. For us, it's what one of those 10c taxes that has a random couple of letters for a name on the monthly bill is for, so it's not entirely free, but it's a sweet deal as the electric and gas companies get x amount of Federal money by reducing customer consumption.
