Aha, that looks to be a much better match to the colouring in Yellowroom's photo! (Really pretty colours in the stippling.)

I don't even have the sharp-shinned hawk in my bird book, but then it's an older book..... I do have a Coopers hawk, with Nutmegger's link says are very similar. I thought the tail of the Coopers hawk was longer, or I'd have suggested it. Hmmm.
