Winter storm Juno

Then I wish I could divert whatever might be headed our way to your yard, to get the job done for you!

The missus was saying how silly all the news is and how 10 years ago, this would have just been called a storm.
We're in the 24-30" pocket.

This doesn't mean I don't feel for you all up there. It's a pain in the arse.

It is amusing how we're under a state of emergency and a travel ban for all non-essential folks.
It's not even all that bad yet, don't think there's even an inch of snow on the car yet.

Makes sense to me. A heavy snowfall is expected...most people are safely home now and they want it to stay that way. If the roads are empty...especially from of accidents and abandoned cars...they can plough and treat the roads quicker and more efficiently.

Lack of cars driving meant the snow built up and wasn't flattened and the grit was lost under the snow so there was just as many accidents but it was doctors/nurses/electrical folks that were either getting about to work or responding to accidents of others, getting into accidents

I do have to go to work whatever the weather. The thing is, if they offer you a ride to work you negotiate a guaranteed ride back.

Mrs P and I (we always commuted together back then) agreed to wait until the traffic cleared, unless the snow became imminent. Around 4pm, with the roads deserted and still no sign of any snow whatsoever, we set off home. What was usually, in normal traffic, a 60-70 minute drive home took us less than 50 minutes. The roads were more or less deserted, less traffic on the road than I have seen in the middle of the night, at times no other moving vehicles visible in front or behind us, even on the interstate.
Oh, and we got all the way home without ever seeing a flake of snow!

Our 2 year old decided 8.45pm would be the perfect time to projectile vomit over 2 piles newly folded laundry, our bed and over the missus. Cue yours truly having to yomp to local package store a few blocks away to get $10 of quarters. Forced into buying a PBR six pack, partly to dull the pain of spending next several hours doing laundry!

Seems like it's mostly not as bad as predicted...although it looks pretty bad further north. Several years ago the NYC Met area was caught out with a snow storm...the mayor got a lot of flak for it. Since then they have tended to over estimate the storms.

Very happy to say that this has turned out to be not a patch on the feet upon feet of snow that we got in January 2011 in Fairfield County. The snow continues to fall, but it is so light that the trees don't seem to be in any danger. We got about six inches, on top of the seven that fell on Saturday, so a very average storm. But I know things are very different in the eastern part of the state and hope the folks there are doing OK.

The car is literally half buried under the snow and the snow bank at the end of the drive way is about as high as the car and the snow is only picking up the pace.
