OK. I don't like cricket (I don't understand the rules) but I do like baseball. Plus, I'm a dual citizen (British and American)...

Re: Why do Brits hate baseball?
It's alright, but like most sports around here, just takes to long, so makes it hard to get into...and most are better live, than on tele.

According to the missus, Baseball should only ever be experienced live, and is wasted on the telly. Haven't got to a game yet, so i'll have to take her word for it.

It certainly is a different experience seeing it up close and personal. The only trouble is, I get distracted at what's going on overall instead of just watching the game. :o

Re: Why do Brits hate baseball?
I like baseball and the Pirates are the worst team ever. We have a beautiful stadium..PNC park, there is always a party atmosphere, everyone talks to everyone else. The fireworks are spectacular, the food is good. I like tailgating.
And they sell beer! I don't really watch much of the game:D |
Re: Why do Brits hate baseball?
i've seen a few live games and IMo its all shite, slightly better than being on TV as sunshine and a cold beer makes everything better, but still shite

Re: Why do Brits hate baseball?
I like to watch it. Not much different to cricket. You have an innnings, Umpires, batsmen, fielders, a homer is hitting a six, being hit by the Pitcher (bowler) is the same as bodyline bowling, caught out, struck out = being bowled the catcher is the wicket keeper, infield players apply to both games, the catcther is padded up as is the wicket keeper, the batter wears protective clothing as does the batsman, a curve ball is a ball with swing on it, one in the dirt is a yorker, both games are played with balls, both games have balls that travel at 100 miles an hour and both games go on too long. Basically the same as far as I can see. What is difficult to understand?

Frank R. Wow, you saw Babe Ruth play? You must have lived here a loooooooooong time then;) :D I love going to a ball game. I think the atmosphere is great and the game can get very exciting. I've been an Astros fan for the last 20 years. A home game in the Astrodome used to be a cheap afternoons entertainment when our kids were young and we were broke. We could park the car and buy four tickets for the "nosebleed" section, have a hotdog and a beer and still spend less than going to a movie. It got more expensive when the Astros moved to Minute Maid Park but it is still a good and safe evenings entertainment. Go 'stros!!!!!!!!! |

Jeez, you don't go to a cricket match to watch it, you go for the booze (or am I missing the point:confused: ). Isn't that the case too with baseball:eek: |

My now @ Uni son, use to go to the Shea stadium at 6.0am and hang around all day for signatures, practice & then the game. He big time fan. We have special wood (Non reflective) cases for signed balls, we have signed bats, $350 (Mitchell Ness) shirts. On the way to a Friday night game, game got rained out. Went on Saturday to the "Double Header", Almost 6 hours of boring nothing, the 2 games produced about 5 or 6 runs, whoopeeeeee. Designated runner: Odd sport, they know they have fat unfit players, Joe hits the ball & Harry runs for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't tell anyone, they would fink U made that up. Frank R. |
