Informative for you Americans but us UK based are still blocked by the travel ban which shows no sign of being lifted and to be honest probably won't be until vaccine is found. They have not announced extension to my understand of it. I am sure that is in the works.

Posted more for a general indication of timelines, i.e., they are extending out and I suspect you won't be going anywhere.

Well since princess is part of carnival they will likely follow suit. We shall see. We have time, thanks for the update.

Does that have any basis in facts, or is it just wishful optimism by Carnival? ..... I would have thought that pure leisure travel would be fairly well down the priority scale for "unlocking", and it'll only need one ship to spark another coronavirus hot spot and the cruise lines are going to straight back in a whole world of hurt!

They are probably speaking with the CDC and other country equivalents regarding the ongoing situation and evaluating their ongoing recommendations one would assume. Imho you can write off cruising for all of 2020.

As long as Myrtle Beach and it's associated beach front hotels are open in October, I'll be happy

The lack of cruises this summer is gonna sting for some Alaska communities who rely on them as well as Vancouver but Canadian government has banned cruises til July 1st and possibly will extend it.

I still would not get on one. Too risky. And who wants to risk getting stuck on one for weeks or a month or more like some have already.

Until you find that it is full of covidiots and virus-deniers, and hardly anyone understands why they have been told to wear a mask and either don't bother, or flat out refuse to do so.

there is absolutely no way I will stay in a hotel this year. I do not trust them to completely sanitize the room and I don’t want to sleep where maybe an infected person as slept. (They do not wash duvets after each guest). I will wait until I have had the vaccine.

What if they never find a vaccine?
In 1984, the US Secretary of Health and Human Services Margaret Heckler announced at a press conference in Washington, DC, that scientists had successfully identified the virus that later became known as HIV -- and predicted that a preventative vaccine would be ready for testing in two years.
Nearly four decades and 32 million deaths later, the world is still waiting for an HIV vaccine.

The UK spent over 4 decades IIRC, from the late 1940's into at least the late 80's seeking a vaccine for the common cold - and in the end abandoned the project with AFAIK nothing to show for it.

The BBC was reporting in couple of days ago that the realistic best possible scenario, despite much chatter about possible vaccines being rushed into human testing, is for a vaccine available to the public starting in the summer of 2021.

HIV is not something you can catch in close quarters or coughing or sneezing. You either get it through unprotected sex, sharing needles or blood transfusion and they can screen it out of blood and you can protect with condoms. Though drug usage of certain groups does perhaps make use of condoms a forgotten act or so I have heard. I don't think there a big scramble for a vaccine anymore not once we learn how it was passed around.

This is different though. If they don't find a vaccine then you have go down the so called herd immunity aka survival of the fittest and just get on with it because you can't shut a country down x months of the year every year.

Either that or live under permanent social distancing which means you can forget about the cruise industry, the nightlife industry and say bye to the half the airline industry and a greatly reduced sports and entertainment industry. And overseas travel is a thing of the past because no tourist has time to quarantine in another country and no one will be trusted do it voluntarily and business meetings can be done on facetime or name the tech.

This oxford trial is going well apparently. After 28 days of exposure, vaccinated monkeys ARE NOT getting the Covid and it is practically being sprayed into their faces or injected into them from how it sounds. It probably isn't like that but they are being exposed to far higher concentrations of Covid than are in a society 5 weeks into a nationwide lockdown.

Human trials of this are maybe 7-10 days in gradually being increased from 2 people to 5 to 10 to however many over many weeks.
