Re: Well things are bad and I have submitted to...
I had to resurrect this thread after todays shenanigans
Got me an appointment with an Ophthalmologist and guess what the lenses I am wearing are incorrect and I have a tear in my left retina.
Guess who is going to the BBB and is meeting with a lawyer to discuss suing the bastards after months of wrong prescriptions and then a 3 week wait for new lenses that never arrived due to their head office never processing the order I finally got my money back and told it would be easier to go through 1800 contacts which I did and guess what yes of course the bloody prescription was wrong and to top it all the only Optometrist I trusted walked out unbelievable shower of incompetent Pratt's.

Are you thinking that the incorrect prescription could have caused the problem?

Re: Well things are bad and I have submitted to...
Is it definitely a retina tear or could it possibly be an eye floater? I have an eye floater and it doesn't give me any major problems. Most of the time I don't notice it anymore.

He said it was a retina tear so I took his word for it, the main thing is after months and months finally I have a conclusion.
2 of the 3 optometrists at the place I went to said that my dominant eye was my left its not its the flippen right, thats scary no wonder I was getting headaches and face pain.

Re: What has pissed you off today
Have you tried titanium frames?,I'm allergic to any metal, except gold or silver touching my skin,so my optition suggested trying titanium, they're great!,never had a problem with them!,as for the contacts, dry finger to put them in,try a touch of solution on your fingers to clean them then dry them and sqeeze the sides of the contact together and they just pop out,if the sides stick together just drop them in the puddle of lens solution in the holder and they'll unfold, ready for use next time....easy!!..good luck!!!!

PG, has the ophthalmologist booked you for repair of the tear? Eyes are (were) my thing for over 20 years and working for a retinal surgeon for nearly 10 of those years taught me that tears need attention most of the time.

I would have thought that an ophthalmologist would know the difference between vitreous floaters and retinal tears.

A gradual increase in floaters is natural; a huge sudden increase is not and a sign that there may be a tear or detachment. Other signs are a bunch of sparkling lights (when not LOOKING at sparking lights) and more ominously, a curtain coming across your vision - think of the block in vision caused by long hair falling across the face/eyes.
Amy (still recoving from double detachment, my scleral buckle is driving me nuts)
PS - an incorrect script won't cause a tear. Any eyestrain is on the muscles and not the retina.

Can you IM me with the location of your opthalmologist? I've clearly got some issue that requires an above average dude.
I've been to at least 4 different eye doctors (not sure exactly what their qual's were now) over the past 10 years, and never seem to get a satisfactory result. I always check out well in the 'test' room (reading the letters/etc) and a pretty consistent prescription results (I've been keeping them all and they are not way off from each other) but when the glasses arrive, I always have issues. After many return trips, the final answer seems to be to back off (reduce, lower) the prescription. Last time, we fussed with the curvature of the lens and that helped, but I've pretty much given up since it takes so many return trips to get anything workable. I'm still hopeful that if I can find a really good guy who takes the time to think about my situation, I may get better results ... here's hoping ...
(I've tried and given up on varifocals and contacts, focusing now on simple 'distance glasses', but even those are problematic).

Because things at a distance were no longer as clear as they used to be, I was very worried when I had to recently renew my drivers license and take an eye exam (1st time in 20 years) at the DMV. The worries ceased as soon as I sat down to wait for my appointment since I could read the eye charts from a distance that was 20 feet further away than required.
I also had varifocals for past 20 years without much luck. Most of the time I have to remove my glasses to read and reading non prescription drug directions is next to impossible. When I try to read the directions, I first try with my glasses, then remove my glasses, and then finally use drugstore reading glasses all with little success. The only reason I keep the varifocals is that the dashboard gauges on my car is clearer (medium distance).
