WATER

How ****ing stupid do you have to be not to understand when someone with a different accent says the word water. The single celled amoeba taking orders at the drive thru McDonals was completely stumped when I tried to get a water with my daughters happy meal. I ended up basically screaming at the speaker and demanding someone takes over that actually understands English!!!! And he still effed up my order!!! I ended up telling him to cancel the order in not the most politest way. What is the matter with these people though? Water!!! W A T E R!!!!!!!!! I'm raging!!!

I used to have this problem all the time until I started substituting d for t, ie wader

Water, wader, there isn't a massive difference. These people are flipping idiots. Now I have pissed off kids cause I promised them a happy meal. I'm glad I don't own a gun!!!!!!

A bit upset over a fairly small problem. No reason to call someone doing a job single celled or even become upset over it.
Accents can be hard for some people to understand. I fully admit I have trouble with some British accents, some may as well be speaking a foreign language they are so difficult to understand. Doesn't make them idiots, stupid, or whatever else people feel the need to call them.

I've had the exact same thing happen. It does make me angry.

As a kid , adults used to always complain about not pronouncing 't' properly, if only they had left me alone.

Most of the time I just make my wife say the order from the passenger seat. I hate doing drive-thru orders.

Was it a native speaker?
I have issue at fast food places when it is my accent and their learners English. Those two dont go well together.

Just say "iced water" and they (may) get the context.
Fast food is not good for you, just sayin'

The US is a country of immigrants, not all will speak English as their first language, throw in an accent they don't hear often, and its good probability a mistake will happen.
Again doesn't make them stupid, or single celled, which is what hit a nerve.
If you moved to a country that didn't speak your language and you were learning, would you want to be called single celled or stupid because of it?

Always ask for light ice too or you get a bucket of ice and a thimble-full of pop.
