Easier to pay the fees in person.

While mailing from Canada is possible, they want the payment drawn on a US bank based in the US, and that is rather hard for me, where I can just pay in Canadian cash in person, or with a US$ money order drawn on a Canadian bank.

"if you live in Canada and are eligible to renew your U.S. passport by mail. Personal checks or money orders must draw on U.S. financial institutions based in the United States and be payable in U.S. dollars."

Maybe they should enter 2021 and offer online payment options, seems a lot less work for all involved.
