Tornado Outbreak In The South

Tornado Outbreak In The South
I trust that my fellow BEers are all ok after the severe weather yesterday? We had a tornado drop literally at the end of our road here in Banks County, GA some trees down but nothing major.
First time in 7 years here that I have received a 'Tornado Warning' message. Lucky lucky lucky.
Looks like AL took the worst of it.
Everyone check in!

Ouch.
We once had a very unusual and mini one where I live. It happened in the night so I never saw it, but heard something like a very loud train approaching. In the morning a few trees and a couple of roofs had been taken down about a block away, and then it was gone. Nothing like the big ones they have tornado alley, but evidence enough of their power.

Safe and sound here in Hattiesburg, MS. Have family and friends in TN and are hoping for good news from them this morning.
Yup, AL had the worst of the storms yesterday with several touchdown tornadoes.

I never really lived anywhere where tornadoes are a concern, but I had the unfortunate luck of being in Oklahoma City area in 1999.
Ouch.

When we lived in CO, there were a few tornado warnings. It got darkish and we headed down to the bathroom in the basement, the only room in the house without a window. Luckily the tornado dissipated without causing damage. It's scary while it's a possibility that it might hit your neighbourhood though.

I was living 6-8 miles away from the Beauregard tornado disaster in 2019. A day i will never forget, my weather alarm went off twice. The sky was a weird dark green at times. That was close enough for a lifetime.

I live just north of Huntsville, AL in southern TN. We had no problem in our area but yesterday and ,many times in the past , central Alabama seems to get hit the hardest. We seem to be just east of the tornados as they move north to Nashville and southern Kentucky.

Well, that was fun! Our house took a direct hit, but fortunately it had probably weakened a bit by the time it got to us. The Downtown area about 2 miles to the West took a proper lashing. For us it was a case of having a tree in the garden that missed the side of the house and the siding being stripped on both sides of the house, plus our drain pipes ending up in the garden of the house opposite us.
The next door neighbour was lucky, sort of. They had two trees land on their house, one of which went through 3 floors - attic, their bedroom and the kitchen. The lucky bit was the fact they have not lived in the USA for very long and didn't know what the siren meant, so had stayed in bed. The opposite house that ended up with our drains called them (his wife is Korean as are our neighbours so they have become quite close) and asked if they could come and shelter in their basement. If they hadn't picked up that call they'd not be with us today because it was less than 5 minutes later that it came through.
Been two days of hearing the constant sound of chainsaws. We've donated stuff given we were let off quite lightly and it has been quite impressive seeing the community rally round.

Re: Tornado Outbreak In The South
Thanks for the offer, very much appreciated, we are good though - nothing that can't be fixed by the pro's now. There has been no shortage of roofing companies walking/driving the street.
You can see the path it took by checking out the blue roofs.
All the trees were removed today and the clean-up was an entire neighbourhood effort yesterday. So many people volunteered for the harder hit area of the town that they had to send out a message for people to stop coming because it was clogging up the roads.
In all of it, we have a $20 cheap umbrella on the deck that I never forget to put down on the floor when a storm comes through. Completely forgot the night of the Tornado and feared the worst when we went out to check the damage. It was still in the table with only a bent spoke.

Glad to hear that you and family survived bodily and with repairable damage to your house.
