Oh really? What do they make up there?
I've only ever heard of those reduced server wages in the South, but I don't get out much you know.

It's true here, in fact, the tax code taxes for tips, received or not.

I'm more than happy to tip in restaurants, or anywhere I sit down to eat or drink. I always feel slightly uncomfortable though when I go for take-out though.
I've just collected my lunch order from CPK, and there is a line for Tip amount, I never tip in this instance, but then feel slightly guilty. What does everyone else do? |

I waitressed for many years as a second job and my daughters have as well. Here you make 1/2 of minimum wage as tips are to be counted towards your wages. Yes, I will tip with carryout depending on the type of carryout place I am going to, i.e. will tip if it is a restaurant and not a little sandwich shop and if it is a little sandwich shop that I go to 2 or 3 times a week, I will usually give a $20 at Christmas time. |

We tip the postman at Christmas,
Because having to walk in winter in Chicago (Or any further north) is hard work. And he's a nice guy.. As for having hair! I have lots. cheeky bugger! I give him a 20 and the price is 15, that's a good tip, right? |
Re: Tips, should I?
I work as a bartender and I receive way less than minimum wage. We are supposed to get $4.15 an hour and I only get $25 for a 9-10 hour shift because I have a cheap boss. I live on tips. Most of my tips are credit card tips which go directly in my paycheck and get taxed like a regular salary. I receive very little cash. Luckily the place I work at is a nice place and tips are good. Business is not what it was before the recession but we are still doing ok. I always tip for takeout even if it's a few dollars. Most of the customers where I work tip on takeout orders. I get tipped out by the waitstaff and I tip out the food runner/busboy. Also I remember the bad tippers just as much as the good ones!

Re: Tips, should I?
What do you tip at a buffet? I was told I should only tip 10% as you get the food yourself  I tip the same as I would at a sit down after all they do the same amount of work Drink orders and removing the used dirty plates, depending on how many times you back to the buffet, they may actually do more work.

Re: Tips, should I?
I don't tip If I actually walk in to get the food, but I've used that Applebees "Carside to go" thingy a couple of times and tipped then.....usually because I've used it when it's bloody freezing outside and I dont want to have to get out the car

The only tip I would give our postman is "try not to be such a lazy arsehole next year ok?" ours must be related. |
