Simpsons in the Strand is (I think) the only restaurant I've been in where I've directly tipped the chef. Felt incredibly uncomfortable the first time, but the results were very gratifying!

TIP= To Insure Promptness.

In the UK i would posit that it could be construed as a bribe offered to the server.
In US it is more like sanctioned extortion.

In Simpsons it definitely was a bribe - when the chef came to the table to carve the beef, you slipped him a wee "thank you" before he started and he sorted you out nicely:thumbsup:
