What is everyone afraid of, exactly?

Apart from those who own cars where the doors fly open of their own accord I mean.
Not quite the same scenario, but here's what happened to a family that stopped to help someone at the side of the road.

I got this for Mrs H recently.

Ruger® LCR® Double-Action Revolver Models

We're 45 mins away from police response if required.
I travel away from home a lot.

Just being practical. Hope never to use it violently.

Couldn't believe how light and comfortable it feels..nice piece of engineering.
The hammer is inside the body, nothing to catch on...

Indeed. Basic, easy peasy to use.
Basic ammo for practice. Hollow points for home defense.

.38 was hard to get around here, I liked the 9mm with moon clips as 9mm seems always available.

But my next purchase will be a rifle.

Mrs L has the 38Spl version. You might want to take your wife to a range and fire it, if you haven't done so. I took Mrs L's one to the range and found that the grip where it rested between my thumb and forefinger bruised my hand with the kick when fired. It took some getting used to.

You can change the grips.

Yes, we did notice that but we've done a lot of range time now and are used to it. However as boiler says we may look into a new grip.

Not sure it is the grip, although it is serrated along that part of the edge. More I think it is where it pushed back into the fleshy part of the hand. But certainly looking at other grips to see.
