Re: Thats a really great accent - Response
Those are very easy to say and keep the right accent on them (may it long continue!) but British people don't use the word vehicle a lot. Though I think I might also be having difficulties with jaguar, I have heard it now so often here I have to concentrate on saying it 'right'.
I can understand why you like a Scottish person to say murder it is different
I think there should be a wiki section on Scottish, English etc voices where you can go and click on a word you feel you can't remember how it is supposed to sound, so we can keep our accents

Of course, if you asked any other national minority what there accent was you'd probably run the risk of being racist....

But folks - do take it as a compliment! Americans all think your accents are sexy/cute/attractive. As a teenager my girlfriend and I used to joke about marrying someone from the UK or Ireland ... just so we could hear them talk.

Raaaaabert vs. Robert
I won't change for anyone, starbucks or otherwise.
Oh, and heard an aussie in the supermarket the other day. JUST about resisted the opportunity to ask him where in England he is from

"I don't have an accent, you do". And if they then look in amazement at you, quickly followed by "What language do you think we are speaking"?

I often threaten Keith if he loses much more accent, I'll make him call up his mum frequently for voice therapy

erm thanks, they are making a compliment.
I just hope it continues and I don't loose it which is my worse fear and have that awful pseudo British-American accent when no one in their right mind here or in the UK would say "I love your accent".
I say all my words the British/Scottish way tomato etc but I am annoyed as I now can't seem to say vehicle in the British way but say it like veeickllll - argh

That is sooo old. I don't even respond. I just stare at them until they change the subject. 'FFS get a passport and get out of this town every once in a while' is what I am thinking though.

"Have a guess, I am speaking your language"... I had one native reply, "German?" Priceless.
What amazes me is how often one cannot be understood, even with receded pronounication. I often wonder how English as a second language folk cope? I manage to listen and understand them.

I get it with my oh so unusual name... John.
"Joel?"
No
"Joan"
Isn't that a woman's name?
"Joe"
Getting closer...
I once resorted to "NO, John... like the toilet".
But then that almost led to a bathroom/toilet debate

A girl I used to work with asked me to do the voice recording for her voice mail!
