The year before that, a night watchman had his head blown off at 1am by a burglar with a 12 bore. Execution style killing. The Police arrived (all unarmed) and the young Inspector climbed into the yard of the premises and was shot under the armpit and died. They got me out of bed at 2am and we were searching farm haylofts half a mile away in the dark. I was unarmed except for my truncheon and the specialist firearms guys were sending me up ladders to search haylofts for the murderer while they stood at the bottom of the ladder

I think that is the last time my neck hair stood up - it does you know

I had a 3" magnum 12 bore (gauge) at 13 (I used BB on rats !) and the kick broke the cheap beech stock. Scary stuff but nice after you survive it and know you can do it !
I've decided I don't like you.

ignoring that but expanding on bb for rats, the rats were on a council dump and hid behind oil drums. A 3" magnum 12 bore with BB will blow away the drum and the rats

The guy at the gunshop asked if I was going tiger hunting when i bought the cartridges

I've heard the same story about the enemy waiting for the sound of the enbloc being ejected... and I once heard a WWII vet say that Garand thumb was pretty common in combat.

Could be some of the injuries were what the brits called 'blighty wounds'

During WWII, from what I understand, the US Army was the only army in the world with a semi-automatic battle rifle -- and I've read where some people think that it was an advantage to the US infantry man. However, I will say that my two uncles with CIB's never spoke about it -- except that the one who got the Purple Heart cursed the Jewish Doctor who sent him right back to the line because he felt that was where a good Jewish soldier belonged -- killing Germans. But that uncle tended to joke a lot so I never figured out if he was serious or not.

You can probably pick up that same Garand you used! Most from the CMP program are post WWII.

Just been checking Washington State legislature and a bill to exempt green card holders from the aliens firearms license has been passed unanimously in the State assembly.

It goes before the State Senate tomorrow for ratification and if passed, it will make Washington State into a 'normal state' where ALIENS are allowed to have firearms once more.

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summ...1052&year=2009

300 days sun, 8" rain, no State income tax and allowed to have guns...

Now all I need is a personal stimulus package

second is security, I have a gun safe locked with my firearms inside, one is kept loaded near me during the night...it's loaded though not with one up the flue - we have an alarm system.

My daughter is 9 and scare to death of guns storms and tornadoes, I took her to the range...she pooped herself, she won't go anywhere near my guns....though I am still very carefull, she's only 9 after all.

Here's a vid of my son (13) shooting a 9mm pistol.

Hi:

Thanks for the thought -- if I were inclined to own a firearm it would probably we an M-1 Carbine or M-1 Garand. However, as you may be able to tell, I'm not so inclined. Also, I'm left handed. The Army never issued left-handed weapons. On advantage of the Garand and the M-14 was that the brass and gas came out the top of the weapon -- on the M-16 it was out the right side -- which was a pain in the ass for us lefties. [And heaven help you if a piece of brass went down your shirt! The Range Safety monitors were pretty insistent we button up to the collar].

Hi:

M-1 Thumb is akin to stubbing your toe -- unlikely to even take a grunt off the line even temporarily. Just hurts a lot.

At the time the M-1 was designed -- the thought was that box magazines were not such a good idea -- a thought that turned out to be incorrect in practice. [BTW, when I was in the army, we called the magazines "clips." I understand that the terminology is in dispute]. Hence the top loading box clip and you had to be very careful of your thumb, lest the bolt spring forward onto your thumb -- a very easy thing to do if you were not exceedingly careful and watched what you were doing.

I have a scar on my right thumb from when I was 14

I had one of those air rifles that break in half to compress the spring

I snapped it back shut with my right thumb in the breach

The thumb went black then green and the whole nail fell off !

Looking at it now nearly 46 years later - it's like a brand new scar !

I don't think I knew many swear words at the time

An article has just been shown on our local news...a Giants footballer found in possession of a gun in NYC. It said although the sentence is 3.5 years...most people cut a deal and end up serving 1.5 years.

As all the States have different laws and some reciprocate and some don't, if I had a gun and wanted to use it in a State that was ok, I reckon I would strip it down and UPS it to myself, and pick it up at the depot at other end - if that's legal ?

Even 18 months in a jail here is 18 months more than I will risk
