Can't help but contrast the noise being made about Assad with the almost complete silence as Egypt's military kills civilians. And what's more, the Egyptian military took power in a coup against a democratically elected government.

I know it is symptomatic of politics, but the pretense that the driving factor is the humanitarian aspect is what galls me about this. Egypt is a perfectly good current example, but the complete lack of action during the genocide in Rwanda shows the true value of life in the global scheme of geopolitics. It's a handy excuse to trot out when it suits your interests and nothing more.

Egypt is a perfectly good current example, but the complete lack of action during the genocide in Rwanda shows the true value of life in the global scheme of geopolitics. It's a handy excuse to trot out when it suits your interests and nothing more.

Well I am not sure that would help after the "national interest" was invoked by Bush and his cronies in relation to Saddam's supposed WMDs. Being honest period might be a better bet.
