STALKERS
This is a serious post, whatever most if you might think about fox hunting. I am being stalked / followed by an older man (mid 50's) who is a big shot in the next town over in New England. I cant go to the police because he's a hot shot around there and I cant tell my husband as we all used to be friends. If this was the UK i'd go straight to the coppers but being in the US and I know I would not get a fair hearing I have to suffer in silence... 
This is a serious thread and this forum is the only place I've voiced it,not even to the OH, its a living hell, i need some proper advice and I cant take it to the lawyers

Honey, there are 2 issues here....
1 - you must go to the police, even dispite your worries of not being taken seriously
2 - if you can't tell your husband, how come you can tell us.... somethings not right.

I cant tell the OH coz he's a mate of his and ther'es some history there and he's a big: shot around here. I am in hell I barely leave the house anymore because I know theres gonna be a big grey chevy surburban tail-gaiting me within 20 mins.

Go to see a "POLICE person" - regardless.... he'll look like a stalking pr1ck to someone......

If hubby will not back you, not worth having. If other way around, wife does not back hubby, same problem. Thats what spouses do, they back each other.

Cant tell the pooolice as the stalker is a best mate of the police chief??? I'd be hauled out of here as illegal if I did?? my only shot is to go home to UK I guess

The state are worse arent they? the police here are very partisan and I / we woudnt have a chance in hell of any legal recourse. so I have to suffer in silence, and enough of the funny quips ray as this is no laughing matter.
