Default Spouse Visa Processing in London

I’m beginning to think that the US Embassy is not reopening yet because Trump doesn’t want to let anymore immigrants in !!! My husband the U.K. citizen has an approved I-130 but we can go no further because of the medical and the interview!
I’m the US citizen and we really want to move back to Texas but are basically trapped here in the U.K. until the Embassy resumes interviews!!
The entire US has “reopened” but those of us not there seem to be getting left behind!!!!!

Also I was about to renew my passport just when the lockdown happened... it has now expired... since the Embassy will only help with passport if it’s an emergency... I as a US citizen can not get my passport renewed if I want to go back to Texas even for a visit!!!!
I truly feel TRAPPED here!!! I probably wouldn’t at this point in time travel.. but I should have the ability to choose to if I want...however because I can’t renew my passport I’m not being given my legal right to return to the US !!!!! This is not right!!!!
I should not have to have an emergency just to be able to go back home !!!!!
VERY FRUSTRATED AND UPSET!!!!!

Hi,

The situation is far from ideal and is frustrating for a lot of people who feel as though their lives are on hold waiting for visas to be approved. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I can imagine it's even worse for couples that are geographically separated, and personally feel quite lucky that both my wife and I are in the same country.

With regards to your husband's I-130, looking through previous forum posts is looks like this was approved on Dec 28th 2019. Have you not received any further correspondence from the Immigrant Visa Unit at the US Embassy since then? You should have received an LND number by now, that will allow him to book his medical and actually visa interview. Even with COVID-related delays, it would seem rather odd to me if you haven't heard anything further from the US Embassy since London.

He did receive his LDN etc in January, he then did his D-260 online ..we had originally planned on moving around April but because it just wasn’t enough time to get Medical and get interview.. then arrange for shipping our belongings, flying over to find a place to live, buy a car, arrange for our cats transport etc etc etc... we decided to wait until this November...... ( we can only fly the cats between October and April because of heat embargo especially in Texas heat).
Then the virus hit and lockdown went into place... without the Embassy open we can’t finish up his Visa, but we also know that there is a six month entry requirement after medical... So since we have no idea when the Embassy services will start bacK up it’s just frustrating...it’s the unknown that’s hard to deal with..... I know it’s awhile till November so we just keep our 🤞🤞 and hope that all is a bit better by then.. both with the Embassy and the Virus...

But like I had said... I can’t even get my US passport renewed unless it’s an emergency!! That makes me mad that as a US citizen I can not travel home if I choose to!!! I AM virtually trapped here ! I probably wouldn’t take a risk and fly over but it’s the point that my rights as a citizen are of no use at this point!!

I guess I just feel like a good rant today!! It’s all so much to deal with....

Hi, I can't comment on your passport situation. However, with regards to your husband's embassy and medical interview, he can book these from now. As of a couple of weeks ago, there were interview slots at the US Embassy at the end of July and Visamedicals are holding appointments two days a week. He should be able to book these with his LND number. Obviously, you may want to wait until you have some indication of when your passport can be renewed, but fingers crossed this will resume soon.

Then you shouldn't have allowed your passport to get that close to expiration. Seems like pretty poor judgement to me. I would never, ever, travel on a document that was expiring soon for just this reason.

You tone smacks of the 'me me me' mentality that is causing COVID cases to skyrocket.

You're not dead. You're not sick. You're not stuck in Yemen or the Congo, you're in a Western Country.

Deal with it.

Think of those that have died.

Frustration or not, rant or not, think about others than yourself. I am so sick of those that only care about their little world.

Half a MILLION people are dead! And you're wining because you can't fly!

Come work in my hospital for a little bit, see the body bags being taken out, and then come back to me about your 'troubles'

Honestly.

On the ignore list we go.

Civilservant is correct in that people who have lost family and loved ones due to this virus are in a far worse position than we are in, and our problems pale in comparison to theirs (I know this first hand - I'm a physician in the NHS). However, I don't think it's fair to say that Nsb25 has poor judgement or has no regard for those affected by COVID. Everyone has their own stressors and individual circumstances, and while it would have been wise for her to have renewed her passport beforehand, nothing can be done about that now. I guess it's a lesson learnt for the future.

Not true! A US citizen cannot be denied entry to the US and therefore you can travel to the US using an expired US passport.

Maybe we need a separate sub-forum for first-world problems?

Think yourself luck that with your expired passport you can, if necessary, return to and be admitted to the USA. You would be in a worse situation if your passport was stuck in the "closed" embassy as you would not have your proof of citizenship in your possession.

No, lizzyq, the correct forum for this particular frustrated rant would be the trailer park which is a sub-forum of the USA forum.

Nsb, rant away. Fully understand where you are coming from. Please understand that posting on a public forum means you open yourself to all types of comments. Read the Forum Rules listed on the top blue banner and if you feel that a post meets one of the points, ask to have it removed.
