If you had a solar filter or eclipse glasses you'd probably have seen it but the glare of the uncovered portion of the sun in a clear sky will tend to 'overexpose' things, for want of a better word.

The cloud cover ended up doing us a favor, we stepped out about half an hour ago and were able to see the crescent of the sun filtered through the clouds so that was pretty cool.

Fingers crossed the clouds will lift in SC for our viewing party down there

Was ok here in Charlotte, NC, but definitely not as dark as I imagined.

Waiting for Trump to tweet about China's smog covering up the sun or something.

I think it always appears darker in photos than it actually is (assuming you saw totality). From what I read it is supposed to feel like dusk or something along those lines.

If you did see totality, was there much of a good view of the corona? Or is that another thing that shows up better in pictures (rather like aurorae, I've discovered).

I was watching a NASA live stream from Charleston and could clearly see some solar flares.

Airport was not too busy, only about 70 planes. I got to see a total eclipse, no glasses or clouds. I was quite amazed. Also thanks to the person that posted the leaf thing, that was quite a sight.

Impressive cloud cover by us, so didn't see a thing but it was only going to be 65%.

Weird. But then I don't know much about how these things work, but it was quite noticeable here in Vancouver.

CBC has a couple photos from Vancouver of the eclipse.

More on the eclipse later, but the interstate home is a parking lot, and the back roads are blocked by multiple wrecks. Why can't bloody Americans drive?!?!?!?!

looks like I chose the right airport. Madras had 400 planes, just look at the lines to leave. Where I was some private jets also flew in.

I think I would have taken a nap and waited the line out.... Seems like a waste of fuel waiting in such a long line.

I just spent time at the BBQ while waiting. Luckily by the time I left I only had 3 or 4 planes in front of me.

In the end, the husband ordered an "approved" pair of eclipse glasses, but then got nervous about using them. However we all took a turn, quickly passing them round. We sat in yard chairs out in the front garden and all peeked at the bright orange crescent of the partial glimmering through the trees.

The temperature did drop noticeably here, but just for a short time. Amazingly we had no cloud cover whatsoever to obscure the view.
