Solar Eclipse

I wasn't aware of the imminent one, but now I am thinking about a road trip, to incorporate being on the line at the right time. I did a google and I could potentially do 6 states in 3 days -FL,GA,SC,NC,AL,TN -1600 miles. I think it would be cool to be at the border of GA,NC,SC at the time. Nearest point- Dillard GA. If anyone knows the area, I'm interested, this is just based on looking at google maps! Weather sounds like a downer!

Apparently the sharp temperature drop associated with a total eclipse (10°+ Fahrenheit) has the potential to dissipate some cloud cover.

Dillard, GA has some events planned, according to this page for Rabun County, GA....

At totality, no problems. If you have a good camera, like a canon with the magic lantern package installed, you can take multiple exposures with different apertures and exposure times, then stack them afterwards, to get a huge dynamic range.

I've got a Nikon body...not played around with any of the firmware hacks. Not entirely sure there is one. Weren't the last time I looked anyway. Will have to have another look, cheers!

That's the nice thing with the Canon, the "hack" is entirely on the memory card. Don't want it ? Change/ format the memory card, and its gone.

Possibly...bit of an extra to get that's a bit of a battery drain the last I read. I do have a remote shutter which helps. Have read of some android apps that can be usb plugged into the camera to take control of the timer to do those time release type shots which is nifty, but I don't really do that kind of photography.

Time magazine has a big piece this month on the upcoming "Great American Eclipse". Includes hotspot viewing places along the eclipse path that are gearing up to make the most of it, safe ways to view it (cardboard viewing specs being sold and pinhole camera to make oneself), best ways to photograph it, etc....

Just booked my plane to fly down to take a friend to see the eclipse. Hopefully air traffic will not be too bad.

That is correct. I was about 60-70 miles from totality from the one back in England a few years ago. I didn't want to deal with traffic. I can fly to the airport in about 30-40 minutes, have a burger, watch the eclipse and fly back. Weather dependent.

Apparently Wyoming has been touted as the least likely area to have cloud coverage for the eclipse. Hotels and camp grounds in/around totality have been sold out for ages and some places have been charging $$$/night, AirB'n'B had a huge surge of new sign ups of host properties. I-25 probably will be sh!t show to the run up.
Denver is slated as 93% partial coverage, sounds good enough for me.

..... You live less than 65 miles from the center line of totality! (Assuming that your BE location description is correct.)
