We'd be changing the oil every six weeks in our Accord if we changed at 3,000 mile intervals. It's bad enough going every 4-5 months. But 10,000 mile intervals (with full synthetic oil) didn't stop the engine getting to virtually 300,000 miles. :thumbsup:

In the UK I had an old clunker that practically required it every 10 miles. I wouldn't need to change... It would just drain. Always carried 2 oil containers in the back. :lol:

Got a good deal on Groupon for this change, so not much issue.

Almost $100 a pop...plus, you don't keep your car till it's ready for the scrap heap do you?

So it's really not worth it.

Plus synthetic oil is good for at least 5K miles.

Our 2002 Ford Escape with ~175,000 miles on it, we do 12,000 miles a year - it gets an oil change twice a year. Between oil changes I top the oil up with the cheapest walmart type brand oil. Full oil change at the local service station (oil +filter) is $35 cash.

Mazda says every 4 months or 8,000km whichever occurs first so that it what we go by.

We use synthetic as the maintenance book says to use, about $80 with the taxes and enviro fees.

It's not under warranty anymore, so I suppose we could change it whenever we want, but easier to stay on the schedule the handbook suggests. The car has to last as long as possible. but sometimes I wonder if we can go to a 2 times a year schedule based on how clean the oil is coming out after 4 months use. 90% short distance stop and go driving and 10% longer highway driving.

$100 a pop! $29.99 or 5 dollars less every oil change I do, Every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.

I pay $18 at my dealership. Also if the handbook and warranty states an oil change every 7500 or 300 for harsh driving what do you do. If you change the oil every 10k is it likely to void your warranty

fluctuates, 30-40k a year. its my biggest deduction.

Oil change - when its dirty .... although manufacture says every 15k, it'll get changed between 7-10k.

Transmission fluid - one of my cars, never have changed, and its at 260k. Dare not to change it at this point.

Less than 2k per car per year. Wife hates driving and I only really drive to the airport and back. Car spends 3/4 of its time in the parking lot at PDX....

As a Dodge driver that is obviously an important consideration for you. :rofl:

Three quarters of our driving is at 50-75mph in fifth gear. We have few very cold days, and few extremely hot days. Our driving is pretty much the definition of low-stress for the vehicle, so I have no reservations about using Mobil 1 full synthetic and changing the oil every 10,000 miles. The only "breakdowns" the Accord has had in 320,000 miles are for dead batteries, which I sincerely doubt can be blamed on the oil change intervals. :rolleyes:

The same is pretty much true for our Mustang (60,000 miles) and F250 (110,000 miles), with the sole exception being a worn track rod becoming disconnected on the F250, but that obviously wasn't an engine oil change interval issue either.

When you spend $30k plus on a vehicle, why would you intentionally void the warranty for less than $20 ?

Who said they would? Many manufacturers allow 10k mile service intervals. But in practice oil in the engine has little or nothing to do with most warranty failures - it only impacts internal components of the engine, and I sincerely doubt whether even a miniscule percentage of warranty claims are for valve train, piston, or crank bearing failures.

Are Dodge's unreliable? I've been eyeing up a Charger.

Although, I'll definitely have to join the stereotypical American tradition of an oversized truck. ;)
