It I'm sure there must be proper cooked from scratch cookery books out there, but they seem to be few and far between.

Amazon.com has quite a selection here:

1lb lean ground beef
3 cups water
1 cup heinz tomato ketchup
1 tsp onion powder
2 cups elbow macaroni
3/4 lb process cheese spread

In a large skillet cook beef until browned. Stir in water, ketchup and onion powder. Bring to boil. Stir in Macaroni. Cover. Simmer 8-10 minutes until macaroni is cooked. Add cheese, stirring until melted and well blended.

Off the back of a Ketchup bottle - my sons Scout Patrol will be eating that on their canoe trip this weekend.

Do I win a prize?

I would never think of putting in the macaroni raw. Does it really cook with all the other stuff in the skillet?

I've got no idea - I'll report back on Monday, if his patrol doesn't staerve to death or poison themselves over the weekend.

Ps - with 3 cups of water, I dont see why it shouldn't...
