You'll probably be under some sort of watch for most of the Spring. They're fairly common and generally advisory on helping you plan (i.e. should a farmer take his tractor out in the fields in a watch if it means he'll get stuck, should you cancel the baseball game, etc).

Warnings are to be taken seriously, especially tornado warnings. Tornado warnings mean it is in on the ground and destroying things (usually). You may hear the sirens going off. Tornado warnings are do not go outside, get to a safe place kind of things. T-storm warnings can also be bad--we would usually have to unplug the tv, computers, etc in t-storm warnings to protect against surges (powerstrips by and large are useless if there is a very close lightning strike). You also wouldn't want to be outside in a t-storm walking around or anything if lightening is bad.

With doppler radar, they're much better at locating specifically where tornados and tstorms are hitting so the warning have become a bit more specific than when I was a kid growing up in corn country.

Stay safe.

Well if a warning comes on during the Star Wars Trilogy, continue watching and you might be able to star in the remake of the Wizard of Oz

Thunderstorms are beautiful to watch --- from a distance. We watched one on our wedding night while sipping champagne and eatings strawberries and then again at my daughter's wedding in Vegas while at the top of the Rio for the reception. Magnificent.

In the UK we would never get anything like this - especially not for a thunderstorm...so are the americans over-reacting, or do they have magic thunder??

I actually like having my favorite shows interrupted to be told there is a tornado heading up my street

We have a weather radio with S.A.M.E so we only get info on our county! I was never into weather in the UK like I am here. The weather in UK is for the most part predictable. Here I like to know if my home is about to be blown away or if I will be driving home in blizzard.

Our directv used to go out if it was just a little cloudy, which is why I switched to Comcast when we moved. But it's not much better!
