Selfish Parking

What the hell is the reasoning behind people parking in two spaces?
It's always idiots in luxury cars. "Oh, my car is so expensive it deserves two parking spaces, so it doesn't need to be in proximity to 'regular' cars."
These people should be taken out and shot.
I never saw it in England, but I see it in America all the time.

I see that all the time. And what gets me is if they were truly worried about there car, and at the same time not lazy bastards, they could just park at the very rear of the lot where no one parks anyway. Just requires walking a few extra yards.
At my old offices, the guys that came in on motorcycles had a slightly odd habit in my eyes - they would collectively park in the handicapped spaces. About 4 bikes in each space. They only took a couple in total, but it still seemed odd to me. Surely a guy who rides a motorbike is pretty much the complete opposite of disabled!
Even better, someone who drove a Porsche would not only take 2 spaces, but would take 2 handicapped spaces!!! Someone took a photo of it, photoshopped the license plate to spell "SELFISH", printed off numerous copies and stuck them up in the breakrooms.
Funnily enough, the Porsche never parked in those spaces again

A Range Rover eh? Did you check it for a Union Jack?
Apparently it's to prevent door dings from people whipping open the doors of adjacently parked vehicles. I've never parked like that, but I've never had a car that was worth protecting.

Saw a Hummer parked just like that at Home Depot Saturday, and they were already in the wide truck space. My husband was joking about my parking, I said well at least I got it in one space unlike that idiot, as the driver was walking right past us...

It is a matter of having a new car and not wanting to be closely parked next to someone who might ding your car when they open their doors.
We have selfish parkers here, too. There are limited parking spaces and even more limited public parking spaces (parallel) on the street. Any night of the week you will see someone who has parked their car in such a manner that there is a lot of room in front of them and a lot of room behind them and if they had moved up or back another car would be able to park.
Monday night I spent 45 minutes parked in a non-parking space while I waited for someone to leave the bar on the corner or the apartment building so I could grab their space.
OH believes they should do as in Ottawa and paint lines indicating which is a parking space and if anyone is over the line, they get a ticket. Money for the coffers of the city and perhaps more parking for others in need.

I started doing it after the 3rd dint appeared in my 2 year old little French car....the parking spaces are so narrow that it can be difficult to open the door wide enough to get out of the car...actually one time when I was doing this and trying to avoid hitting the car next to me, the door swung back into my face at the edge of my eye..blood went everywhere

I just park further away, and preferably next to a small 'island'.
Roland, why do these things bother you? You get stressed over things you have no control over. Stress is bad for the body.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when you get the baby. I wonder if your world view will change somewhat.
