I'd have picked the bloke who invented the TV, myself. Or Baron Kelvin (even though he was born in Belfast ...)

Do you have the slightest idea what Adam Smith stood for? He's probably spinning in his grave at the twaddle spouted by Alex Salmond.

Logic? Since when has that ever featured in a political decision.

I think this whole currency thing is going to sink it, there's too much uncertainty.

Quite.
Their EU membership application definitely can be vetoed (by Spain) if they do not adopt the Euro. To inherit the Sterling carve out from Euro would basically make independence pointless as financial sovereignty is ceded to Westminster.

As to Schengen, it would be in absolutely no-one's interest so it won't be required. As long as UK wants Scotland in the Common Travel Area (which UK and ROI definitely would want unless Scotland radically changed it's border controls for non-Europeans - which Scotland will not).

My nightmare following a "yes" vote in September's referendum would be my possible compulsory deportation from Cheltenham back to Edinburgh - so I'd better apply for English nationality ASAP...or dual nationality may suffice...

Only a bad dream...will never happen anyway.....Salmond is nothing but a dreich little.....................

I didn't try to count them, but the same article would have been more honestly headlined "Most Experts say Scotland Could Not Join EU in 18 Months."

Presumably those who have British Nationality will keep it.

Scottish nationality, I assumed maybe incorrectly that it would be on a similar basis to eligibility to vote?

Wonder what would happen of Scotland decides to tax it citizens as the US does?

The White Paper describes the SNP's proposals re: citizenship and passports post-independence. Dual nationality will be available for some Scots and UK for one generation, I think, after which it is less clear.

There was a clause on p. 87 ensuring the deportation of Lothianlad back to Edinburgh.

If Scotland keeps sterling it wouldnt cede sovereignty to the Westminster parliament ,the BoE control the interest rates etc.,just has they have been doing for the UK government for the last 10yrs.

There are voices in SCO calling for a separate currency and control over our own monetary and fiscal policy.

But we were talking about the Scots...
