CNN supposedly reported a very recent poll result as 56% - 54% .... must be using the GWB book of election maths.

How can a foreign government tell another sovereign state, what time zone to use?

Especially when that sovereign state has the nuclear submarines. Dangerous move.

I must be missing something here, as I just don't see how that can be possible...Westminster doesn't "own" the time (does it?).......how can they tell another country what time zone they must use?

BBC World Service running with No by 54/46, stressing this was an online poll after voting, not an exit poll.

Given Scotland's westerness, I think it is doubtful that they would remain on the same time zone.

But that would be their choice, post independence, not at Westminsters insistence....

In any case, there's really only a degree or 2 difference. The vast bulk of Scotland lies between 2W and 6W, while the vast bulk of England/Wales lies between 0 and 4W, expand that to 2E and 6W to include East Anglia and Cornwall. Given that 1 hour = 15degrees, there's not a massive case on geography alone to suggest a permanent change is necessary. Maybe they could argue for an hour permanent change, given that increasing agriculture is a priority for the economy, and also as a cost saving measure to help with the inevitable austerity drive.....?

The only time zone change I'd expect is that Scotland would remain on GMT all year round.

Chaps.
I made it up on the spur of the moment, while typing up post #1986. One of my trademark really weak jokes, specially designed so any random reader would immediately detect that it was just a joke .....

I'm becoming cautiously optimistic.

Just waiting for Eck's speech..."We triumphantly gave the Scottish people their own choice..A triumph for Democracy...I will continue to serve the Scottish people now and in the future on this momentous day..."

(Still pisses me off that so many Scots don't get to vote and yet many non-Scots do get to vote. It's a disgrace.)
