this is a thread about how british your kids are - not how patronising you can be to everyone about not taking vitamin tablets.

This is getting ridiculous! I too, give my kid a vitamin - because BEING A KID and quite stubborn at times he has his own agenda and doesn't always want to eat the healthy stuff. What's wrong with a little back up?

Isn't it a shame that vitamins that replenish dead brain cells don't exist? You'd be able to keep that market going all by yourself !

Okay - finally an answer to my very simple question "why do you think extra vitamins are necessary?"

Thank you - you use it as a back up.

obviously in vicenza kids are all perfect and eat only those foods known to be healthy and as part of a well balanced diet without any coaxing or armtwisting. Over here in the real world we all know our kids dont quite attain those lofty heights and you have to do the best you can.

Kids are little tinkers with food. It the one thing they have power over - lips tightly shut and a shake of the head! :curse:

PS My boy likes the Vits from Target - their own brand Gummy Bears

Should have also added...
My sister was told by her health visitor (in the UK) to get her son on a vitamin because around 6 or 7 months he refused to drink formula or milk unless it had chocolate syrup in it, which of course she did not want to do all the time.

So not only an American thing.

i dont give a vitamin per se - but i do give them a one a day kids fish oil capsule. My eldest is rather scatty and i hoped it would help him concentrate a bit more.

Mine havnt changed too much yet - but they are both young and not in regular pre school yet. I am conciously changing words i use to them - like trash instead of rubbish - so that when they do go to pre school they know what the teacher is talking about. The both love mac and cheese though!

My eldest is 19 and still very British but not in a contrived way...she just is.

My middle one and my OH (the largest child) are very americanised.
The youngest switches to suit her purpose.

It is probably because the middle, youngest and OH all live at home and occasionally get slipped a vitamin pill
