We had our AOS interview today in Chicago. It could have gone better. We stumbled a bit due to nervousness. The interview lasted about 20 minutes.
The office told us that we should receive a letter in 3 weeks.
she took the EAD and I-94 from us. is this the sign of approval?
is this unusually that they took the EAD from us?
can we check our status on-line/call somewhere to find out?
Thanks in advance for your sharing.

We had to submit some more evidence after our AOS interview because we were missing some paperwork (my wife couldn't find some of her old tax returns) so if they didn't ask for anything else that sounds promising.
We were really worried after our AOS interview because of having to dig out extra paperwork and submit and I got my greencard anyway. Good luck! (and welcome to Chicago)

It's standard to take the I-94 from your passport. As for the EAD, it is a good indication that you are earmarked for approval. Others have had to give up their EAD's at the AOS interview. My husband didn't because he was not approved at the interview as they had to wait for his original file to be sent back from the archives.
You can check online, of course, but there is no guarantee it will be updated. I would not call the 1-800 for at least 3 weeks.

is it safe to assume that if they did not reject us, it is approved?
did anyone receive a reject letter in the mail?
or most of the time they would tell us that it's not approved.
I guess I'm just nervous about this whole thing.

I had my interview in Chicago back in December, same kind of experience we were nervous and our officer was quite intimidating, she also took my i94 but not my EAD and told us the same thing, we would recieve a letter in a few weeks. I was pretty upset as i thought we would be approved there and then we consulted with a lawyer afterwards who said not to worry and everything sounded ok. We are actually still waiting for USCIS to get back to us. They are currently looking into our case as it has been over 180 days since we got our reciept. You can check your case status online by registering at the USCIS site or you can call them and they can give you an update. Ill post an update on our case once we here of anything. Good luck!
