There were less options for seating, no upgrades available, the in-flight entertainment kept cutting out and the "meals" were crap (bearing in mind I'm one of those odd people who normally loves BA Curries and cakes that arrive semi-frozen in a cardboard box on my lap). :D
The IFE and the meals should be the same on both planes though. |

The 777 is slightly smaller than the 747, so there are fewer seats.

Sounds like I struck out on the meals . :(
I vastly preferred the 747 seating. I would, if given a choice, avoid flying on a 747 again, and given Virgin Atlantic's love of 747s and packing people in, I would not fly with Virgin if there was an alternative. |

I vastly preferred the 747 seating. So far, the 777 has been the most comfortable plane I've flown on. Even the AA one wasn't bad. |

I think I only ever flew on a 747 once, or maybe twice. It was the most cramped transatlantic flight I have ever had, and among the most cramped of any flight I have experienced.

It is, though if you get the right spot it is 2-4-2

The "right spot" is anywhere in a 777. :) |

I absolutely detest Virgin Atlantic. They are the epitome of Branson's marketing hype over substance. Nasty cramped seats, surly staff (BA's cabin crew are far nicer, yet they are the ones with the bad rep!), mediocre IFE (Aer Lingus's is better). Oh but they have a funny safety video - whoop de do. |

Have you only flown on a 747 with VS? ......
I can only presume that Branson's customers are mostly students, cattle, dwarves, sardines, and people with no legs, .... plus celebrities travelling first class. |

Hmm, think I had better wait until I'm not in the office before watching...

Re: Planespotting
I refused to fly Virgin generally as they refused to upgrade people. With my contacts still at the airport, I have a fairly good chance of being upgraded with BA out of LHR. That said, the last time I flew VS, we flew on the 346. By far the smoothest and quietest aircraft I've flown on. I expected it to be fairly spacious inside. The toilets were. They were huge. But the seating, awful.
When I flew out to move over here, I managed to get bumped up to the bubble. That wasn't even like being on a plane. If you're flying business, a 747 is definitly the way to go. |
