My pet peeve is the difficulty it can be to get books these days, as in real books and not kindle or electronic. I can't read a book on an electronic device, bugs me.

Technology can be grand, but sometimes it's also annoying.

Why can't you read on a Kindle? I agree about reading on a tablet, they're horrible but Kindle's should be fine, aren't they?

Might be worth checking to see if your local library has a second hand book sale like ours does.

At ours, you get a paper bag (one of those hardware store sale type ones), fill it with as many books as you like and it only costs a tenner :)

I like my Kindle, it feels fine reading from it for long periods. I like it a lot better than the Kindle app on my phone, for comparison.

I would struggle without my Kindle now, it's almost attached to me. Only problem I have is when I go back to a proper book it takes a few pages before I remember to read the left hand side pages as well.

 Another vote for Kindle. I would happily give up my tablet(s) before my Kindle if I had to make a choice.

Re: Pet Peeves?

I've tried various different Kindles, plus my iPad and I just don't enjoy reading from them as much as I do from a book. I do do it - on flights, holiday etc, when it is clearly far more convenient than filling my carry on with heavy books, but by choice I would pick up a book instead of an e-book. E-Books give me the same sort of "deflation" of experience as when golf courses started insisting golfers wore plastic spikes instead of metal ones:o:(

But my main peeve about the electronic reader is that, particularly at home, I tend to sit down with the intention to read a novel, and get sidetracked into checking email, coming on BE, surfing the news channels, whatever....my consumption of actual novels has gone
way down since I got a tablet.

Kindle solves all of that by being complete crap at anything but reading. :)

I like being able to read my Kindle at night in the dark when my wife is sleeping. But, you can lose a lot of sleep that way.

I'm still about 50:50 as far as reading from my Kindle and reading a normal book. It depends on what one I am reading. I still get books out of the library from time to time as well and I still haven't read all the books my mum gave me over the years so I have much catching up to do :D

I don't have a tablet. My wife does, but I make do with my phone. It's fine for BE, youtube and arsebook, but a pain in the arse to read on. Plus my Kindle has that pleasing background and electronic ink they use.

Mine won't let me do that, I just have the basic Kindle 3. Having no bells and whistles saves me from myself ...

E-Ink. Best thing ever.

I concur.

They are very handy for people like my wife and I, who love to read but don't have the space for lots of books. Win win, if you ask me

I still love the library though. That booky smell and blissful silence. Couldn't ask for more.

Maybe thats my solution - I was using my sons Fire, and could pretty much do almost anything that I do on my ipad. If I revert to type and use the old (or at least old new) technology it may solve at least part of the problem!

Pick up a paperwhite. That'll do you. :)
