I hate trains
I like trains

They can be the source of great inconvenience though.

Yes I like "normal" trains but these are mostly chemical tankers going from the plants to the Houston ship channel. Sometimes when the plants are on "shut downs" they are running constantly through the night. We don't normally notice them until the "horn" blowing starts then it seems to go on and on and on...

No passenger trains out our way

We get a lot of freight trains due to the big switching plant in Chicago. Our house is quite near tracks; quite often our house will shake slightly with the vibrations being transferred up the hill.

Mostly it's just the local passenger ones though, they run until 2am

I thought this was a rant about smelly or loud or otherwise obnoxious passengers on commuter trains.

Have I mentioned how much I hate other commuters?

Trailer walls can be very thin and have poor sound insulation, I suppose...Still, the property was cheap, right?

The commuter railroad trains were one of the factors that drove me out of NY though. They ran until around 1am, about every 40-50 minutes, and blasted their horns as they crossed the level crossing across the narrow valley from our apartment. Then they'd start up again around 4am. They kept me awake, then they'd wake me up, then some nights I'd think a I'd been woken up i.e. that it was past 4am, but it was actually only 1am, but I ended up laying awake all night thinking it was soon time to get up.

OMG - I'm just back from London (with a case full of M & S goodies, if you please) and the underground was a nightmare!

I used to work in London about 15 yrs ago and it all came back to me the first train I stepped on - ugh.

The town over from us...driving through the place every week or so for the grocery shop.

All summer long they've been resurfacing the town, new pavements, the works.

They finished a couple weeks ago, looked alright.

Went through town yesterday, out of the blue they stuck in a traffic light at a junction I go through. No warning about it, nothing and to make it worse, it's a no red on right...almost went straight through it yesterday, because the thing was so high up.

You mustn't think too highly of the rest of the Welsh things; unless you didn't mean to post that in the Pet Peeves thread ...
