I also agree with the advice but not the reason that you all are stating here.

In order to go into a nursing home you must give all your assets over to the nursing home for your care and when that is exhausted, they will then have you placed on medicaid and medicaid will pay the expenses. If you have a healthy spouse, then the advice to divorce is valid as it will leave part, if not most, of the estate intact for the surviving spouse.

I agree that financially it can make sense...but then that goes against the prevailing Tea Party (the party of choice for many if not most evangelicals) attitude against 'handouts' and government taking care of people. I doubt that they would worry about that though.

It is hard to remember now, but, Carter was very religious. Sadly his more new testament (the bit with Christ in it) christianity has been side lined.

Nope wouldn't generalize as that quoted in the above statment. The Conservative Christian movement would be on the right, the Liberal folks on the left. Folks such as myself, would be in the middle, lost in the wilderness.

My creed as far as my faith goes has nothing to do with my politics.

Just reading some of Pat Robertson's numerous outrageous statements and this one might top them all. In opposition to the ERA amendment.

In a now infamous letter, sent as a plea to supporters to donate money to the Stop ERA organization, Robertson claimed that the feminist movement was "a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."

Covered a lot of bases there.

Maybe, maybe not depending on the lookback period. My father is in awful shape at the moment and is hindering my life, but lucky for him I can't divorce him. Not a very Christian thing to do.
