If you are based in somewhere like Dalgety Bay you can get the train to either Dundee or Edinburgh. If you are driving then you are just off the motorway. About an hour to Dundee or 45 minutes to the center of Edinburgh also park and ride would be a possibility.
Where about is th Edinburgh office? If on the west side then fife would be a good bet. |

His office would be located just a couple of blocks away from Waverly Station. I appreciate the suggestions; if you have anymore let me know.
You can work out fairly accurately what your husband's take home salary is likely to be.. here's one calculator - http://www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php |
Re: OMG! Should we try this again?!?
If this will provide some predictability (of costs) in your medical situation, then that alone seems to be an overriding consideration.
I am curious, though - what made you want to leave Scotland last time? Will circumstances be different this time? Also - are the career opportunities going to be similar in both places (for both of you)? It seems like both of you have had no problems finding more than one job in Seattle in your short time there, and it is known as a good location for jobs. If the one job in Scotland goes belly up, will you have other possibilities? |

For long term job prospects in Edinburgh, we don't have serious concerns at the moment as he's seen quite a few jobs in that area. Obviously that could change in the future, but that could change here too. Since they want him there by 1st Aug, we have come up with a plan to get there, but to meet that deadline we have requested some additional relocation funds. We hope to hear back on that on Monday and then we will hopefully be good to pull the trigger on our plan. |

I think you are going into this with your eyes open and some familiarity with the country, you will be fine!

Nothing really to add except if you do go for it and end up living in Edinburgh I hope my hometown treats you well. I've not spent much time in the city over the past few years but I enjoyed growing up there. All bar maybe a dozen members of my family live there still so I will be back to visit one day. All the best. :)

So I would say you can get a house for £600pcm a twenty minute bus ride away (probably west) from Waverley, or a flat for the same price on a ten minute ride (probably south). And I don't know if a car is essential, but if it isn't then taking the bus is so so much easier than owning a car/fuel/insurance etc., especially since the trains to Dundee are right there too. |
Re: OMG! Should we try this again?!?
Well, seems almost all the details are worked out. We now have a go for launch! Since they wanted him there so quickly, we asked for a another £1k, and they said yes! :D They are going to buy his plane ticket and then deposit the remainder relo funds into our Lloyd's account.
We now have about 2 weeks to organize a 16' truck with a tow hitchy thing on it, and drive back across the country to my folks house so we can leave/sell our stuff there. Gotta turn in our notices, and hope the apartment manager will work with us on the break lease situation (as we just signed a new 6mo lease). I also need to send off for my passport renewal and get started on our cats shipping. Thank God that is sooo much easier/quicker now. So much to do, in so little a time period! Edinburgh here we come!! |
