O..M..G..!! Must fly home TODAY.

The Battenberg cake got me hooked. Gypsy Tart!! Probably haven't had that for 45 years!! I never knew it was specific to Kent, either. Bakewell tart looks pretty yummy, too.

I used to make the best Eccles Cakes. I learnt to make Flaky Pastry at school at 13 and got fixated by it. The only one of those I'd eat. The Bakewell Tart doesn't have enough jam in it.

Agreed, the bake well looks a bit dry without lots of jam. A bit like school dinner

Oh how I miss Battenburg- I really do have a BIG list of foods I need to eat when I go back for a visit. Lucky I am going back for a 5 week trip otherwise I would be the size of the house by the time I got back!!!

Just got back from UK and brought three battenburg cakes back with me in my hand luggage - they are the best!

Yeah I'd rather just eat it over there than bother bringing it back.. We are going for three weeks in June/July for my sister's wedding. I keep trying to tell my wife a battenburg is all-natural, but she's sceptical for some reason.

OF course it is all natural- flour, eggs, milk, sugar (all natural products) the pink colouring probably comes from red cabbage and then there is the marzipan which is almonds. Dont forget that Almonds are good for heart health and therefore not only is the battenburg all natural but it is good for you too!
